Vitaliy Kovalchuk  got his musical education in Kharkov Special Music School, and then in Kiev National Academy. He continued his musical development on the faculties of opera-symphonic conducting in Leipzig University, The University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar and  Berlin University of Arts. His professors were N. Pasquet, G. Kahlert, Ch. Kluttig, A. Bramall, L. Koehler etc. While studying, he conducted youth orchestras in Leipzig and Jena. In 2008 Vitaliy Kovalchuk became the winner of the 2nd prize of XI International Conducting Competition in Budapest, Hungary.

The most remarkable achievements of his education was qualification and participation in International Master Course with Mr. Bernard Haitink and Lucerne Festival Orchestra.

In 2011 Vitaliy won the competition for the vacancy of the conductor of Odessa National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. From then onwards he has conducted and took part in the renewal of La Bohème, Tosca, La Traviata, Rigoletto, Il Trovatore operas, Fledermaus operetta, Don Quixote, Schwanensee,  Nussknacker and Spartacus ballets.

He also conducted new productions of Masquerade (A. Chachaturian), Le Nozze di Figaro, Evgeniy Onegin, L’elisir d’amore, Fates (Contemporary ballet Music Yuliya Gomelskaya) and was involved in holding various gala concerts: from popular opera arias and ballet performances to music concerts for movies and musicals.

In 2015 Vitalii was the guest assistant in new production of the «Le Comte Ory» opera in Bayerische Staatsoper. 

Vitaliy’s orchestral guest conducting engagements include The Dresdner Philharmonie, The Berliner Symphoniker, Lucerne Festival Orchestra, The Jena Philharmonic, Thüringer Symphoniker Saalfeld-Rudolstadt, Budapest Symphony Orchestra, North Bohemian Philharmonic Orchestra of Teplice, West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra of Marienbad, Symphony Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, Kharkiv National Academic Opera And Ballet Theatre, Odessa National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet, National Opera and Ballet Theatre of Ukraine.
